Urban jungle garden
This garden was a patch of grass in a built up urban area of Leeds. Dr. David Bell wanted to make his Chapeltown garden a special place where he could get lost among shiny leaves, with a big wildlife pond. He wanted to give up a lot of his driveway to make more space for gardening, and the most exciting part of his brief was the inclusion of a huge boulder for sunbathing.
The design therefore includes raised beds just outside the house, on the drive, which leads down into a wild jungle, with bespoke Oak benches and a bridge spanning the pond, with the boulder at the furthest reach.
The garden won entry into the prestigious Society of Garden Designers Open Gardens Event in 2011, and was featured in the Daily Telegraph.
